- Heritage, Arts, and Culture -

The community strives to be an incubator space for tourism, cultural development and a community source for artisans, crafters, musicians, and artists. We thrive on discovering our natural surroundings, exploring ideas and bringing people together in new ways to discover what is important to them. Following this idea is the Bridge and Falls Cultural Series, where the overall mission is to celebrate diversity of values, ideas and events with three essential and guiding principles: people, connection, and the natural beauty of the eastern shores of Lake of the Woods. We want to give summer residents and tourists from near and far away, a reason to stay and play in the communities of Sioux Narrows and Nestor Falls.

Book Trading Post

Book Trading Post

Lake of the Woods Book Trading Posts – for Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls will foster a love of reading, advocate for literacy, and create opportunities for neighbours of all walks of life to connect to each other. Little free libraries is a community movement that offers free books housed in small containers to members of the local communities.

Our very own BOOK TRADING POST now stands, close to the entrance of the Northern Ontario Sportfishing Centre, adding to the streetscape and book culture in Sioux Narrows. Jake Blosser designed and constructed the BOOK TRADING POST finding his inspiration in the Boreal Forest in rural and remote northwestern Ontario. The BOOK TRADING POST is operational from May long weekend to September long weekend! We encourage you to come on down – to take a book and to leave a book!

Book Trading Totem Pole

Nestor Falls Community members designed and built the BOOK TRADING POST for Nestor Falls.   It is located at the Nestor Falls Information Centre.

You too can join in on the fun: LITTLE LIBRARY owners can create their own library box, usually about the size of a doll house. Bill Thompson, Former Mayor of The Township of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls stated, “I encourage all residents, young and old, to come out to build their very own Little Free Library!

The idea of LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES was popularized in Hudson, Wisconsin in 2009 when Todd Bol mounted a wooden container designed to look like a school house on a post on his lawn as a tribute to his mother, who was a book lover and school teacher. He posted a sign on the small structure encouraging curious visitors to “Take a Book, Leave a Book.”
