The next municipal election for Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls is Monday, October 24, 2022.
The Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls elections are held by Vote-by-Mail. This eliminates polling stations, proxy voting and advance polls. The ballot packages electors will receive through Canada Post are their ballot. They should return it according to the instructions as soon as possible after receiving it. They will also be able to hand deliver it to the office during a specified period up to and including voting day. They should not throw it out and visit the office on voting day to receive another. However, if a ballot package is lost or an elector does not receive one, an elector can receive a replacement during a specified period up to and including voting day. Though, the package received in the mail should not be treated as an alternative or disposable. It should also be handled with care and kept secure. This is their ballot package.
The period to file a nomination paper for the next municipal election begins May 2, 2022 and ends August 19, 2022. Please note that an appointment is required to file.
If a person wishes to run as a candidate in a Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls municipal election, they must file a nomination paper with the Clerk. The first day to file a nomination paper for the next municipal election is May 2, 2022. A person cannot raise or spend money on an election campaign until they have filed the nomination paper.
Nominations are accepted between May 2, 2022 and August 19, 2022 during regular business hours Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding holidays). On August 19, 2022, nominations will be accepted between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All in-person candidate services will only be provided at:

To file a nomination, you must provide:
Current acceptable identification, showing name and qualifying Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls address
Nomination filing fee
The filing fee is $200 for candidates running for mayor and $100 for candidates running for councillor
Nomination fees are refunded after candidates file the required financial statement(s)
Please note that original signatures are required on all forms.
If an agent is filing a nomination on your behalf, the agent must provide the above documents as well as their own identification.
To run for mayor or councillor, on the day the nomination paper is filed, a person must be:
A Canadian citizen
At least 18 years of age
A resident of the Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls, or
An owner or tenant of land in the Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls, or the spouse of the owner or tenant
Not legally prohibited from voting
Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office
Who Cannot be a Mayoral or Councillor Candidate:
The following people are disqualified from being elected as mayor or councillor:
A judge of any court
A member of the Provincial Legislature, the Federal House of Commons or Senate who has not resigned from their office by the close of nominations. Proof of resignation must be provided by the close of nominations
A candidate who failed to file the necessary financial statement or exceeded the spending limit in the last municipal election or by-election, or failed to provide their surplus to the Clerk in the last municipal election or by-election
Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls Employees
Employees who wish to run for mayor or councillor must take an unpaid leave of absence before filing a nomination paper. Documentation proving the leave of absence is required.
Withdrawing a Nomination
If you no longer wish to be a candidate, you must file a Notice of Withdrawal of Nomination in-person on or before 2 p.m. on August 19, 2022. Candidates cannot withdraw after the nomination period has closed.
Candidates who have withdrawn their nomination are still required to file a financial statement.
Nomination papers and other public documents that are filed with the Clerk can only be viewed at the Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls Sioux Narrows Office Location (5521 Highway 71) during regular business hours (Monday-Friday – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays).
Filed financial statements are also public documents.
You can vote in Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls’ municipal election if you are:
a Canadian citizen; and
at least 18 years old; and
a resident in the Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls; or
a non-resident of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls, but you or your spouse own or rent property in the Township; and
not prohibited from voting under any law
You may only vote once in the Township of Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls municipal election regardless of how many properties you own or rent within the Township.
You must vote in the ward where you live.
Information for students:
If you are a student and consider your “home” to be the place where you live when you are not attending school, which means you plan on returning there, then you are eligible to vote in both your “home” municipality and in the municipality where you currently live while attending school.
Who cannot vote:
You are prohibited from voting on voting day if you are:
serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
acting as executor or trustee or in another representative capacity, except as a voting proxy
convicted of a corrupt practice described in section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996

add an elector name to an address; and,
change school support.

It is MPAC’s Municipal Property Assessment database of property owners and tenants that is used to prepare this preliminary list, which aids in the preparation of the final voters’ list for Election Day.
