Working Together to Reduce Waste.

Every properly sorted load helps protect the beautiful land we’re fortunate to call home. Living in a small community means we all play a part in keeping our land, water, and trails clean.
Whether you’re dropping off recycling or cleaning out the garage, taking a few extra seconds to sort items properly helps keep our system running efficiently.
What’s changed recently? Ontario completed its transition to a producer responsibility model for the Blue Box program on January 1, 2026. Under this system, producers the businesses that supply packaging and paper are now responsible for operating and funding the collection and recycling of these materials. While this is a province-wide change, proper sorting at our local landfill sites remains just as important.

What can and cannot be recycled? At our landfill sites, residents can recycle common materials like clean paper and cardboard, plastic containers labeled #1–7, metal cans, cartons, and glass containers. For a full and up to date list of accepted materials please visit the link above.
Items that should not be placed in recycling include dirty or partially full containers, food waste, plastic bags (except clear bags for shredded paper), Styrofoam packaging and trays, batteries, and plastics that are not containers. Mirrors, window glass, and broken glass should also be kept out of recycling.
Why it matters? Our landfill sites serve the entire township, and their capacity is limited. Every sorted load helps reduce contamination, improve recycling outcomes, and extend the lifespan of our landfill. By using recycling properly, we can make the most of the space we have while helping to reduce long-term costs and environmental impact for our community.
Let’s keep working together! Together, we can help Sioux Narrows–Nestor Falls remain clean, vibrant, and litter-free for everyone to enjoy. Even small efforts can make a big difference.
This spring, our trail cleanup efforts helped kick things off as we prepared our spaces ready for the season ahead. That momentum carried into Earth Day, where we invited the community to take part in simple, no-pressure cleanups, just picking a spot and leaving it better than you found it. It’s a reminder that small actions go a long way.
