The SNNF Trail Update: June

Weather Outlook
Northern Ontario’s hiking trails are gearing up for a beautiful start to June! From June 1-15, expect mild to warm temperatures, with daytime highs ranging from 18-28°C (64-82°F) and cooler evenings dipping to 10-16°C (50-61°F). Early June often brings a mix of sunny days and scattered showers, so packing a light rain jacket is a good idea for surprise rainclouds.
Bug Report
Bug season is in full swing, with mosquitoes and blackflies being particularly active near water sources and dense forested areas. Wearing long sleeves, using insect repellent, and hiking during breezier times of the day can help minimize bites. If you're heading out for a longer trek, consider bringing a bug net for extra protection.
Trail Conditions
Trail conditions vary, with some areas still drying out from spring rains. Be prepared for muddy patches, especially in lower-lying sections. Keep an eye on local trail updates for any closures or maintenance work. Whether you're exploring rugged terrain or scenic lake views, early June is a fantastic time to hit the trails—just come prepared for the elements!
